Starting Your Chainsaw

To kick things off as Leatherface, you'll want to ensure your chainsaw is up and running. Press the chainsaw button and then the interact button at the right moment. This initial step is crucial because Leatherface is significantly less effective without his chainsaw. Act quickly, as you don't want victims right in front of you with your chainsaw off.

Obstacle Destruction

Apart from dispatching victims, one of the most valuable contributions you can make as Leatherface is obstacle destruction. This not only aids your team in chasing down victims more easily but also limits their escape routes, particularly crawl spaces and barbed wire obstacles. Destroy these obstacles whenever you encounter them, as it's your responsibility to apply pressure early in the match.

Basement and Grandpa's Role

You'll find yourself alone in the basement with the victims at the match's outset. Grandpa will notify you when they escape unless certain conditions interrupt his slumber. Until then, your primary objective is to eliminate as many victims as possible, as they'll search for lockpicks to flee through the basement exits. Your other family members cannot assist you downstairs until Grandpa awakens.

Unlocking Exterior Alarms

When you accumulate 21 skill points, consider upgrading Leatherface's skill tree to access a special Grandpa ability called "exterior alarms." This ability highlights all critical doors and gates for 5 seconds when they're opened. It helps you track the path your victims are trying to escape through, except for basement doors, which require Grandpa to level up to level 1 before they're affected.

Chainsaw Sprinting and Power Swing

While Leatherface may initially appear slow, he can sprint faster than any other character in the game by holding the Rev chainsaw button to rev his chainsaw. Don’t overheat it by holding the button too long. You can practice tapping or feathering the Rev chainsaw button to maintain a constant sprint. This makes Leatherface a formidable pursuer, even against swift victims. Additionally, Leatherface can execute a powerful attack called a power swing by using the chainsaw just before it overheats. While it's not always a one-hit kill, it can be if the victim has taken prior damage. However, this move comes with a risk, as it overheats the chainsaw and allows the victim to escape.

Locking Doors Behind You

Finally, a crucial tip for all family members, particularly Leatherface, who starts in the basement, is to lock doors behind you, especially the blue doors, which are the basement exits. If a victim lockpicks a blue door, you won't be able to re-lock it. Therefore, always double-check and lock doors whenever possible, as you don't want to provide an easy escape route for the victims inadvertently.

How to Play the Survivors and Killers

Guides

The Characters You Play With

In the realm of "Dead by Daylight," there are various characters on both sides of the conflict. You have Leatherface, Cook, Hitchhiker, Johnny, and Grandpa on the killer side, while the victims include Maria, Anna, Leland, Sunny, Julie, and Connie. Each character possesses distinct features, perks, and abilities. Before delving into the game's fundamentals, it's crucial to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each character. Additionally, the game includes three different maps: The Family House, the Gas Station, and the Slaughterhouse, with night versions available for some.

The Killer Abilities

The killers, including Cook, Hitchhiker, Johnny, and Leatherface, come equipped with unique abilities that can be strategically employed to hunt down victims. Cook possesses the "Seek All Family Special Abilities" capability, allowing you to listen carefully for unusual sounds and locate victims based on the noises they make. Additionally, Cook has the "Bane" ability, which unleashes a poisonous gas capable of slowing down victims and contaminating items on the map. Hitchhiker employs the "Trapping" ability, setting traps around the map to ensnare victims. Johnny utilizes the "Hunt" ability to track the fresh footsteps of victims. Leatherface's signature ability is the chainsaw, which can be used in various ways, from breaking objects to striking victims.

The Killer Roles

In your role as a killer, it's essential to understand your responsibilities. If you're playing as Cook, your primary focus is locking doors around the map and relocating locks as needed. You can also close crawl spaces to hinder victims. The hitchhiker shares a similar role but with greater endurance. Hitchhiker's duties include securing map elements like car batteries to prevent immediate survivor escapes. Johnny can barge through doors and close crawl spaces, while Leatherface excels at destroying obstacles, including crawl spaces, barricades, and doors. As Leatherface, you should prioritize these tasks when not actively pursuing victims.

The Victim's Abilities and Traits

On the victim side, each character boasts distinct traits, abilities, and attributes, such as toughness, endurance, strength, proficiency, and stealth. Skill points can be unlocked to enhance these traits, tailoring your character to your preferred playstyle. Connie features the "focus" ability for faster lock-picking, while Sunny possesses a "heightened sense" for situational awareness. Julie boasts "Ultimate Escape," making her difficult to catch by the family while reducing stamina drain during sprints. Leland's "lifesaver" ability allows him to stun a family member for a duration. Anna's "Pain is Nothing" reduces damage from attacks and falls, providing additional immunity to poison effects.

The Basic Mechanics and Goals

In "Dead by Daylight," understanding the basic mechanics and objectives is crucial. Victims aim to escape the trial, while the family's goal is to prevent this. Escapes can occur in various ways. Victims must find and install a valve on a pump, disable electrified gates by turning off car batteries, or activate generators and escape through a designated exit. The family's job is to guard these objectives, ensuring victims cannot escape. Additionally, victims can collect various items, such as bone scraps, healing items, lock picks, and more. Making noise and stealth are integral mechanics, with noisy actions potentially alerting the family to your presence.

The Grandpa's Role and Family Assistance

Grandpa plays a significant role in the game, waking up when sufficient noise is made or when fed blood by the family. Once awake, Grandpa assists the family by pinpointing survivor locations for a limited time. Standing still is essential to avoid detection when Grandpa is active, as moving will reveal your position. On the family's side, waking up Grandpa quickly to access the basement and gather valuable information is essential. Protecting Grandpa from survivor attacks is crucial, as they can disable him temporarily.

Leveling Up and Skill Tree

To enhance your characters, use the skill tree and level up your attributes, perks, and abilities. Killers can unlock unique perks for various characters, improving their effectiveness. You can also use the unlocked abilities in a special slot on the character loadout screen. Remember that each character can have up to three perks per loadout, with five different loadouts available. Points can be earned through various actions, such as winning encounters, turning generators on, escaping, and healing teammates. Allocate these points to the skill tree to enhance your attributes and abilities, creating a more potent character.

Gameplay as Victims and Family

As victims, your initial goal is to untie yourself quietly and gather items to aid your escape. Each character's attributes will influence your item priorities. Lock picks are especially valuable, and using them effectively is essential. When chased by a killer, use doors, crawl spaces, and environmental features to evade capture. Keep noise to a minimum, as excessive noise can reveal your location to the family.

On the family side, cooperation is key. Cook feeds Grandpa and secures the map. Hitchhiker traps crucial areas, and Bubba destroys objects to limit survivor options. In a coordinated team, everyone contributes to achieving success.
