Find your Enemy

Indices

Knowing the enemy's whereabouts, keeping tabs on attacks against your home forces, and understanding the direction of the assault are all essential. It's also crucial to be aware of your own forces' movements and where the enemy might be.

To gain valuable insights into enemy positions and activities, We recommend investing in observation balloons. They may require some expenditure, but they offer an expanded view radius. Make sure to position them at a reasonable distance from your camp, allowing you to defend them if necessary. Keep in mind that once the battle starts, you won't be able to deploy additional balloons.

National Will is Important

Indices

In times of war, both at home and abroad, the spirit and mood of a nation play a crucial role in determining the outcome. When people are filled with optimism and determination, it has a profound impact. It not only keeps the production lines running smoothly but also boosts the morale of those on the front lines, knowing they have unwavering support back home.

In The Great War: Western Front, you can maintain and enhance the National Will by accomplishing objectives. Additionally, depleting the enemy's resources contributes to this objective. Remember, the complete loss of National Will for either side will ultimately lead to defeat, so it's important not to overlook this aspect of the game.

Always Pair Units

Indices

When it comes to trenches, it's ideal to have two companies occupying each one. It's highly recommended to pair up infantry units, especially during assaults on enemy trenches! Remember, if you can't see inside a trench, assume that the enemy has two units stationed there.

Once your infantry successfully infiltrates the enemy trench network, navigating from one trench to another becomes much smoother. You'll have the advantage in close combat engagements along the way. Keeping units in pairs significantly improves your chances of winning these fights. In case one unit is lost, the other can hold its ground until reinforcements arrive to lend a hand. By coordinating your forces and maintaining paired units, you'll maximize your effectiveness on the battlefield.

Always use Artillery

Indices

In The Great War: Western Front cheats, infantry units hold the key to claiming objectives, making them incredibly vital. However, to ensure their success, they rely heavily on artillery support. Artillery plays a crucial role in suppressing enemy fire, as soldiers, including machine gunners and other artillery crews, can't effectively engage while under bombardment.

When it comes to artillery options, light artillery may not pack a massive punch, but its wide area of effect makes it your go-to companion during assaults on enemy trenches. Time your artillery fire just before your troops approach the enemy's range, allowing them to advance with minimal casualties. Remember, it's essential to prioritize neutralizing machine gun nests, as they possess the ability to decimate entire companies within seconds.

Here’s a video showing you how to do this.

It's Okay to Lose a Battle

Indices

World War I was a grueling battle of attrition, and the game perfectly captures that essence. Winning every single battle in your campaign may not be realistic, but with cleverness and patience, you can make the enemy pay a steep price for their victories. If victory seems out of reach, aim to inflict maximum casualties before considering surrender.

One effective approach is fortifying your command trench and surrounding it with strategically positioned machine guns. This forces the enemy to endure heavy losses or reconsider their objectives before achieving their ultimate goal. This tactic works exceptionally well on maps where your command trench is located near the edge, as it reduces the risk of enemy artillery hitting it.

When launching an offensive, you might find that securing control points proves too costly, preventing you from reaching the enemy's command trench. In such cases, prioritize destroying their artillery, observation balloons, and other crucial equipment before considering a cease-fire. By doing so, you ensure a significant drain on their Gold Reserves, dealing a blow to their resources.

Exchange your Units

Indices

When units have suffered significant losses, it's crucial to prevent their destruction or capture on the battlefield. While there will be instances where sacrificing units becomes necessary, if you have the luxury of time, consider withdrawing any companies that are not at full strength to make room for fresh troops. This approach not only increases your chances of success in the next engagement but also helps save resources since withdrawn troops won't need immediate replacements after the battle.

The most effective way to execute this strategy is by having replacement units stationed in a trench located away from the front lines. This setup ensures a swift transition: move the reserves forward, withdraw the wounded, and then call in reinforcements to take their place as the next set of reserves. This streamlined process minimizes downtime and maximizes the efficiency of your forces.
