Beginners Guide

Hinweise

The Best Options Set Up

Before beginning the game, head into options to adjust the stats of different settings for ideal individual play. Turning on Instant Movement and Instant Battle will remove the animations of movement and combat, increasing the flow of battle and making the whole experience much smoother will increase the flow of a battle.

The Best Character

When you start the game, players can choose between two characters: Royd Clive or Kevin Greenfield. Like the game, we suggest you play through Royd’s campaign first, as it is more diverse regarding locations, characters, and story. Kevin’s campaign is much more difficult, even when played on the easiest setting.

How to Save

Players must be careful with their files with two playable campaigns and only four save slots. When playing through a campaign, the best thing to do is save the top two slots for out-of-battle experiences and the bottom two for battles.

It’s good practice to save at the beginning of each round so that, if you do happen to die, you won’t start at the very beginning. By rotating the bottom two slots, you ensure your ability to go back if you feel like you messed up.

Destroy Stuff to Level Up Quickly

You may think damaging your opponent is the best way to earn experience, but that actually isn’t the case. Instead, what you should do is destroy parts of the mech. You can earn more experience by destroying the entire unit, but sometimes it’s better to pick an enemy’s mech apart piece by piece.

Leveling up outside of story missions is difficult, so take advantage of any enemies you encounter.

Color Code Your Mech When You’re in a Team

Players can customize their mech down to the color. You should take advantage of this mechanic, especially in a team. Every new ally should ensure their mech is a different color to everyone else on the team. This makes strategizing easier, as you won’t have to click on each mech to figure out who’s piloting what.

Make Sure You Have the Proper Equipment

Weapons that fire more than one round, like machine guns, are the best option for beginners. While they have lower attack power and accuracy, they guarantee more hits than other weapons.

You would attach one gun per unit and place a missile launcher on the opposite shoulder, allowing all units to attack from a distance.

Attack in Groups

During missions, enemies will come at you from multiple sides, and while it might seem like a good idea to split your team to save time, attacking enemies is safer in numbers as they tend to head toward your allies anyway.

Make your way through the map together and prepare yourself for any enemies that may attack from the opposite side of the map. There isn’t one strategy for every mission, thanks to the variation of the maps, but you should try taking out all the enemies on the left side of the map before making your way to the right.

Stock Up on Items

You can heal any part of your unit during your turn; just ensure healing items are equipped before you begin a battle. Give each until at least two items per mission, and remember to restock these items afterward.

It’s good practice to sell unwanted equipment for a little extra money.

The Best Weapons

Hinweise

Grave S MG ($400)

A powerful, lightweight machine gun that is well worth the price and a great advantage on the battlefield. It has no special effects but is accurate, reliable, and has a great payoff. The Grave S MG deals damage through burst shots that stun your enemies, and while not great for long distances, it is great for switching between gun and melee combat.

Gnautz Bazooka ($400)

This powerful weapon is heavy and has a wide range. It’s perfect if you’re hoping to end a one-on-one fight quickly and can also take out four enemies at a time if they are relatively close to each other.

Nail Fire Flamethrower

No matter the weapons in your collection, having a flamethrower on hand is always good. It may slow you down, but the destruction it causes makes up for it.

It’s great for closed-off positions, and its design is perfect for those who enjoy having a stylish-looking arsenal.

F-2 Tonfa ($240)

This handgun with great stats is perfect for any battle scenario. It is incredibly accurate, light, and excellent to have on hand when you’re cornered or in a compromising position.

22 SN Leosocial MG ($280)

This reliable weapon shoots enemies with a series of burst shots and has a sleek, dark design. It is best for close combat and can clear out enemies quickly.

Glowtusk Rifle ($240)

This rifle is ideal for accuracy and especially handy if your defense is great (or your opponent’s is terrible). Despite its weight, the weapon provides a great finishing shot and is great if you can stand in one spot.

Cemetery MG ($200)

While not great for water battles, this elevated machine gun is perfect for battles on dry land. Its accuracy makes up for its weight and range.

RIM-3 ($320)

This grenade launcher is the perfect weapon for swarms of enemies and can help you to clear them out in one shot. It’s an especially great weapon if you’re not a fan of close combat. Unfortunately, it can be a bit heavy.

Raptor

This machine gun is obtainable in the early game and is great for helping you progress. It’s not particularly heavy, so it won’t way you down, and if you’re a good shot, then it’s the perfect starter gun.

If you aren’t a good shot, the Raptor can help you improve your accuracy skills and help you gun down enemies who are out of reach.

The Best Pilots

Hinweise

Royd Clive

Given that he is the game's main protagonist, it makes sense that he’s also one of the best pilots. He’s incredibly well-rounded regarding abilities and skills, meaning players can use him in various ways. He’s good with both short- and long-range combat.

While he is great in the early game, his lack of specializations means other pilots easily surpass him.

Natalie F. Blakewood

Natalie’s playstyle means she’s great for a variety of tactics. In the early game, she favors long-range attacks, but that’s because it takes a while for her short-range skills to unlock, given that they’re more powerful.

Her strong-willed personality is suitable for motivating teammates to push forward, and she’s not afraid to scold people for acting hot-headed or careless in combat.

Ryuju Sakata

Ryuji is one of the best pilots specializing in short-range combat. He’s a major benefit to teams that would be vulnerable at short range, and his connections to the Canyon Crows and Royd make for synergistic plays when he fights alongside them.

Joynas Jeriaska (J.J.)

J.J. is a short-range specialist and a member of the Canyon Crows with skills outmatched only by Ryuji. J.J. is available from Mission 2 - 22 and returns after Mission 25. He’s great for the early game, especially regarding your team’s defense, and he can quickly close the gap between you and your enemies.

Keith Carabell

Keith has connections to the Canyon Crows and is best friends with Keith Carabell. He is available for Missions 2 - 22 and later returns for good. While he’s great as a short or long-range combatant, his skills make him ideal for melee combat.

Yang Meihua

Yang is a great melee pilot who’s available for Mission 4 - 14 before returning later down the line. While her long-range damage is the lowest in the game, her broad range of skills makes her a valuable short-range pilot. Unfortunately, her value decreases as the story progresses due to a lack of focus.

Frederick Lancaster

Frederick has appeared in multiple installations of the game, earning himself the title of fan favorite. Unfortunately, he gains skills, particularly melee skills, very slowly, which can be incredibly frustrating when he leaves in Mission 20.

He’s great as a short and long-range pilot.

Paul C. Grieber

Paul is a member of the Canyon Crows and the best long-range pilot in the game. He can double as a short-range mercenary, but since he can’t learn First, Double, or speed, he’s easily outclassed by short-range specialist pilots.

Gregorio Maias

Gregorio is the best melee pilot in the game. He joins you after you’ve won a battle at the Colosseum and completed Mission 8. While his late entrance might seem like a disadvantage, he has the upper hand with specific skills (such as Stun), and with the right amount of investment, he can catch up with other pilots and earn a spot as the go-to melee pilot.

Hans Goldwin

Hans is a hacker and the second-best long-range pilot in the game. His abundance of open talent slots means he can act as a short-range pilot if you have no other options. He’s available to play from Mission 8.
