How to Improve Your Gameplay

Hints

Unlock Ford's Chest

Right at the beginning of the game, you'll encounter a locked chest in Ford's office. Fortunately, you can open it immediately. First, inspect the flashlight you acquired at the start of the game. Flip it around, and you'll find a code scratched on the bottom, which reads "0415." This code remains the same in all playthroughs. Use it to unlock the chest and obtain the cargo control key.

Secure the MP60R

After obtaining the cargo control key, head outside and move towards the exit. Keep to the right-hand wall and navigate through the containers, eventually dropping down underneath. At the end of this path, use the key to open the door and acquire the MP60R. This full-auto handgun boasts a high magazine capacity and rate of fire, making it an excellent sidearm to complement most early-game classes.

Unlock the Blood Moon Altar

The Blood Moon Altar is a crucial aspect of the game, found near the major NPC in Yaesha. Initially, it's locked behind a door, which you'll need to progress through several areas to access. Gathering Blood Moon Essence is essential, as it allows you to purchase valuable items, including a potent amulet and ring that synergizes with a summons. Most importantly, it grants access to the Faded Grimoire, unlocking the Summoner archetype. Collect ten trait points to enable the ability to equip two archetypes.

Collect Blood Moon Essence

Blood Moon Essence can be collected relatively easily but may require some patience. During the Blood Moon event in Yaesha, tiny purple orbs appear. Shoot these orbs, and they will fly towards you, yielding one Essence. They are most likely to spawn around the Forbidden Grove but can appear in any outdoor area in Yaesha. Keep exploring, reloading areas, and swapping between doors until you collect enough Essence (usually between nine and twelve).

Utilize Two Modes for Efficient Progression

To level up quickly and maximize your gameplay, utilize story and adventure modes. You can set these modes to different difficulties. If you're struggling with higher difficulties in the story, consider rerolling your adventure playthrough, progressing, leveling up, and returning to the story mode for a more balanced experience. This approach can also serve as a form of New Game Plus.

Fire Safety: Stop, Drop, and Roll

Remember the age-old advice: stop, drop, and roll if you are on fire in the game. Rolling is more effective in this game than in real life for extinguishing flames. As soon as you initiate the roll animation, the fire will be extinguished, with only one exception in an area where everything remains ablaze.

Liquid Escape for Efficient Travel

When you're far from a checkpoint or stone, consider using Liquid Escape. Unlike most Souls-like games, you don't lose anything upon death in the game. Embrace the quick respawn and use it strategically to traverse the world more efficiently.

Optimize Quest and Boss Rewards

Quest and boss rewards in the game are unique and used for specific purposes. You don't need to hoard them. Craft or sell the items to NPCs for scrap, as they serve no other function. Experiment with different items and mods without worrying about conserving these unique rewards.

Exploring for Secrets and Loot

Exploration is key. Smash everything you come across, as many objects contain valuable scrap. Also, paths, such as hidden walls, floors, or illusionary walls, can be discovered by rolling through barrels and vases. Leave no stone unturned.

Experiment with Diverse Builds

Don't stick to a single build. Experiment with various combinations of weapons, skills, classes, and gear. Remove all your equipment and read through the descriptions to select one or two items that align with your playstyle. Build your character around these choices and, if necessary, farm for upgrade materials to optimize your build. Variety is the spice of success in this game.

Hints

Difficulty Levels

When we start playing the game for the first time or initiate an Adventure Mode campaign reset, we are presented with four different difficulty levels. However, it's essential to understand the differences between these difficulty settings. Contrary to some assumptions, the variations between difficulties primarily revolve around enemy and boss statistics, such as health, damage, and experience points earned. The game's core mechanics remain consistent across all difficulty levels.

Account-Bound Items

Certain items, such as the Bright Steel Ring, are account-bound. These items become accessible to all your characters, including hardcore ones, once unlocked on your account. Prioritizing getting account-bound items before delving into hardcore mode can be a strategic choice.

Cass's Shop

Cass, the NPC introduced in the tutorial, not only progresses to sell various materials but also offers a wide range of amulets and rings. These items, however, appear in her shop sporadically and reset approximately every 30 minutes spent outside Ward 13.

Pay Attention to NPC Conversations

Listening to NPC conversations attentively can yield significant benefits. Some dialogues can lead to avoiding boss fights or result in varying rewards based on your interaction choices. Don't rush through NPC interactions; they may be key to valuable rewards.

Unlocking Archetype Traits

To permanently unlock archetype traits like Swiftness from the Explorer class, reach level 10 with the respective archetype. This allows you to use these traits on any other archetype character, providing flexibility in character building.

PC Optimization and Mods

PC players have the option to optimize their game experience. Adjusting the field of view (FOV) and using mods like the mouse smoothing fix can enhance gameplay. Additional mods can help improve FPS and fix issues. Consider exploring these options to enhance your gaming experience.

Major Paths and Questlines

There are two major paths and questlines within each world. Identifying the major path your world follows can assist in planning item farming and progression. The starting zone often indicates the world's path.

Directional Dodging

Understanding directional dodging mechanics is crucial, especially for new players. Dodging direction doesn't significantly affect the outcome of most boss attacks. Timing is vital, and perfect dodges rely on hitting the invincibility window.

Perfect Dodges and Iframes

Perfect dodges occur when you dodge at the precise time to avoid damage. They depend on invincibility frames (iframes). Each weight bracket has a set number of iframes, and these frames can be increased through traits and items. Learning to neutral dodge, especially with heavy armor, can be advantageous.

Damage Modifiers

Understanding how damage modifiers work is vital. Damage increases stack additively before multiplying with base damage. This differs from a common misconception of multiplicative stacking. Accurate knowledge of damage modifiers is crucial for optimizing your build.

Impact of Grenades

Grenades can benefit from certain damage-increasing modifiers and critical chance bonuses. Mod damage, mod critical chance, and flat damage or critical chance increases directly affect grenade damage. Utilize these modifiers to maximize your grenade effectiveness.

Buffs and Status Debuffs

There are various buffs and status debuffs, such as haste and curses. Understanding these effects can significantly impact gameplay. Haste enhances multiple actions, while status debuffs like Curses, Corrosive, and Burning inflict unique effects and can be cured with specific consumables.

Boss Suffixes

Boss suffixes in higher difficulties provide information about a boss's unique attributes and challenges. Understanding these tags can help players adapt their strategies and prepare for boss encounters.

Gray Health

Gray health represents health that can be self-regenerated. It allows players to recover their red health bar over time, even without healing items. Understanding how gray health functions can aid in efficient gameplay.

Stagger Mechanics

Stagger resistance is crucial, especially for tank builds. Reducing stagger effects can prevent constant interruptions during combat. However, the options for reducing stagger are limited, and some items may provide immunity rather than incremental resistance.
