Progression

Unlockables

Unlike in past games, there is no character progression as you level up. Your player stats do not change, and you do not unlock new skills. However, you have clubs that can be used to hit the ball further (which is balanced by making them more punishing to use).

There are also cosmetic unlockables available that do not affect gameplay.

Accurate Swings

Hints

There are several things you’ll want to pay attention to while swinging. You have meters for both your Backswing Tempo and your Downswing Tempo. You want to aim for those meters to get a perfect shot.

If your Backswing is too fast, you’ll have reduced accuracy. If it’s too slow, you’ll have reduced power. Meanwhile, if your Downswing is too fast, you’ll get a draw or hook, and if it’s too slow, you’ll get a fade or slice. How far off you are determines how much it will affect your shot.

Another meter indicates your Swing Plane. This indicates how straight your shot is. You want your shot to be as straight as possible so you’re aiming on target. The Swing Plane’s size will change based on the type and difficulty of the shot you’re trying to make.

There are also times when you’ll want to use a partial backswing so you don’t hit the ball at full power and overshoot your target.

Shot Shaping

Hints

Once you have the basics down, you’ll want to move on to more advanced shots using shot shaping. You can increase or decrease the loft of your shot, which will be indicated in the Loft Box. For more complicated shots, you will want to add draw or fade to change the direction that your ball will take while it’s in the air.

These techniques can help you take much more advanced shots, but it will also make the shot more difficult.
