The Xbox One has a not-quite-so-worldwide release date of November 22 for the United States and some European countries (full list below), but when’s it coming out in Japan? Some time between February and June 2014 apparently.

Microsoft broke the (painful) news at a press event recently held in the land the Playstation was born, saying that around February or March next year would be the earliest Japanese gamers can expect to get their hands on the successor to the Xbox 360, with the console definitely being released before the end of the financial year (ie by the end of June).

What’s the biggest reasons for the potentially long wait in Japan? One has to be the language and entirely different characters, the other has to be the lack of Japanese games… It certainly leaves the door wide open for Nintendo and Sony (the PS4 will be launched in Japan on 22 February).

Xbox One launch countries: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA.
