Titanfall’s “Regeneration” System Revealed, Similar to CoD’s Prestige

Last Updated: February 21, 2014

We’ve got more details for you from within the Titanfall beta files. Once again, we have NeoGAF user RazorUK to thank for uncovering this information.

It looks like the level cap is 50, but more interestingly, there is something called “regeneration.” All players begin at Generation 1, and there are 10 total ranks. Additionally, RazorUK found some menu text that sheds some light on what this means:

Take me to generation [next level].

Warning! You will lose all that you have unlocked and be reset to level 1. All challenges will be reset.

Years of battle have taken their toll. We can regenerate you… at a cost.
Your body can be restored. But your memory and your experience…all will be lost.
When you awaken you will respawn a [next level] generation Pilot.
You will be better, sharper, acquiring experience even faster than before.

There are a few interesting things we can pull from this. First, going to the next generation puts the player back to level 1 and resets their challenge completion. Second, higher generations acquire more experience. RazorUK believes each generation receives a slightly higher experience boost, with generation 10 receiving 3.5x experience.

According to the beta files, to reach the next generation, a player must reach level 50 and also complete certain challenges specific. For example, RazorUK found the following challenges for going from generation 2 to generation 3:

Generation 2 to 3
If It Moves…
Kill X enemies with the EVA-8 Shotgun
Tiers: 50, 100, 200, 350, 500

If It Moves…
Kill X enemies with the 40mm Cannon
Tiers: 50, 100, 200, 350, 500

Electrifier
Kill X Pilots with the Arc Grenade
Tiers: 5, 10, 20, 30, 50

He also posted images of the various generations which can be seen below.

This could add another level to Titanfall’s gameplay and provide replay value for players who hit the maximum level. Regeneration sounds similar to Call of Duty’s prestige system, but it definitely has its own twists. What do you think? Is this something you’re excited for when you play Titanfall?
