It’s that time again, when the NPD Group releases the official sales report for the previous month. It feels almost contradictory to say the Xbox One-exclusive Titanfall and the PS4 were both in the lead in March, but that’s the way it turned out. The PS4 led the console sales, which isn’t surprising in light of the news that it crossed 7 million sales, even though Titanfall was the top-selling game.

The top ten best-selling games (new, physical copies only) for March were:

  1. Titanfall
  2. Infamous: Second Son
  3. South Park: The Stick of Truth
  4. Call of Duty: Ghosts
  5. Dark Souls II
  6. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
  7. NBA 2K14
  8. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster
  9. The LEGO Movie Videogame
  10. Minecraft

The sales data for Titanfall and Infamous: Second Son didn’t include their respective console bundles. We assume those were counted among the hardware sales instead.

Overall, hardware sales were up 78% from last March, although software sales were down 28%. It’s definitely been a good season for the PS4 and Xbox One, as well as for some of their most prominent games.
