Bloodborne Familiar, but Not Exactly Like a Souls Game

Bloodborne

Before the PS4-exclusive Bloodborne was announced at E3, many fans thought From Software’s mysterious new title would be another Souls game, Demon’s Souls 2 being a popular guess. However, according to Director Hidetaka Miyazaki in a translated interview, the developers “never even considered making it Demon’s Souls 2.” It was planned as a new IP from the start.

It still will have elements in common with the Souls games, while providing new experiences. Miyazaki’s ultimate goal is to make a good game that players will enjoy. Bloodborne will have some sort of online component, although he hasn’t revealed details about what that will entail. It could be similar to the way online work in the Souls games, or it could be something new. Whatever it is, it should be interesting.

So, there’s a lot we don’t know about Bloodborne. What do we know?

Gameplay details are still scarce, other than knowing it will have faster combat than the Souls games have, but we do know more about the story. Bloodborne is set in the Victorian Era, in the distant and ancient city of Yharnam. Yharnam is troubled by strange beasts, which are fought each night in the Beast Hunt. The player character has come to Yharnam in search of its fabled medical cure, only to be caught up in the terror of the Beast Hunt.

Sounds like a dark, supernatural tale so far. What are you hoping to see in Bloodborne?
